ALFONSO LUIS ARCHULETA
Alfonso Luis Archuleta, 94, was born in Las Vegas, New Mexico on April 12, 1931, and passed away in Santa Fe, New Mexico on September 12, 2025. When he was a young boy, his family moved to Long Beach, California where he grew up, and resumed his education. He received his BA degree from the University of California, Los Angeles, and his PhD degree in Latin American Studies from the University of Southern California. After graduation, he taught Spanish and French in the Foreign Languages Department at California State University in Long Beach, California. He married Donna M. Ibbotson on June 28, 1982. After retiring, he and his wife Donna moved to Rociada (Pendaries), New Mexico. Alfonso is survived by a sister Helen Howard of Sunnyvale, CA; brother Arthur and his wife Pat of Reno, NV; a stepdaughter (Leah McFarland of Albuquerque, NM); seven nieces, two nephews, great nieces and nephews (residing in California and Washington), and extended relatives.
A rosary for Alfonso will be recited on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, at 10 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at 11 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church; 1301 Osage Avenue; Santa Fe, NM, 87505. Interment will be on Friday, October 10, 2025, at Santo Nino Cemetery in Rociada, NM.
