Obituary

Charlotte Ann Sandelin passed from natural causes while awaiting morning coffee with her husband on May 4, 2026. Born on February 18, 1956, to Charlotte Hanlon. Charlotte (the younger) and her sister Andrea spent their childhoods on the move, often living on horse farms. They settled in Vermont, near most of the extended family. Charlotte's mother married (our dear) Harry LaTier, and they decided to move to New Mexico. This was a shock to Charlotte and Andrea, but they adapted.

Chalotte attended the University of New Mexico and became deeply involved in music and education, eventually performing and teaching. She had a beautiful soprano voice.

After several years of friendship, she married Kenneth Sandelin in 1982, choosing to become Charlotte Sandelin. Charlotte and Ken enjoyed many adventures - business, travel, equine, and artistic, ultimately arriving in Flagstaff, AZ. There Ken developed an architectural practice, and Charlotte went back to school, while working.

After completing degrees at Northern Arizona University, Charlotte embarked on the crown jewel of her career: a unique, progressive pre-school called Foresight Learning Center, which was highly successful. The school combined several educational theories, carefully curated by Charlotte.

Times were good. Charlotte and Ken worked hard, traveled often, and Charlotte got to keep a horse.

Eventually Charlotte and Ken were ready to slow down a bit. Fortunately, Charlotte had a trusted and talented director at the school, Beth Frost. Charlotte sold the school to Beth, who has since sustained and improved the institution.

Charlotte understood that a quieter life was now in order. She and Ken considered their history and regarded Santa Fe as the place they'd like to be. It held fond memories for them as they were married there. So, she and Ken “retired” to Santa Fe.

Since that time, Charlotte has offered her voice to the Santa Fe Symphony Chorus, given vocal workshops, raised / trained several horses, helped charities, made many dear friends, and cared for her husband.

She has always been passionate about philosophy, studying several disciplines, schools of thought. When she passed, her desk was scattered with hand-written notes about abstracts, like Free Will. (She always took notes, to help with learning.)

Charlotte was practical, pragmatic. She would take a bale of hay over a bunch of flowers any day. Hence, if anyone wishes to make a donation, please consider a contribution to our local food bank, The Food Depot. Keenly aware that many struggle, Charlotte would want us to put the needs of others first.

Charlotte invested her life with intention and thoughtfulness. She spent 7 decades learning, teaching, and making the world a better place all around. Everyone who knew her was better for it.
