Charlotte
Sandelin
February 18, 1956 – May 4, 2026
Charlotte Ann Sandelin passed from natural causes in the early morning on May 4, 2026. She was born on February 18, 1956, to Charlotte Hanlon. Charlotte and her sister Andrea spent their childhoods on the move, often living on farms – hence their lifelong love of horses. They eventually settled in Vermont, near most of the extended family. Charlotte's mother married (our dear) Harry LaTier, and they decided to move to New Mexico. This was a shock to Charlotte and Andrea,... but they adapted.
Chalotte attended the University of New Mexico and became deeply involved in music and education, eventually performing and teaching. She had a beautiful soprano voice.
After several years of friendship, she married Kenneth Sandelin in 1982, choosing to become Charlotte Sandelin. Charlotte and Ken enjoyed many adventures - business, travel, equine, and artistic, ultimately arriving in Flagstaff, Arizona. There Ken developed an architectural practice, and Charlotte went back to school.
After completing degrees at Northern Arizona University, Charlotte embarked on the crown jewel of her career: a unique, progressive pre-school called Foresight Learning Center, The school combined several educational theories, carefully curated by Charlotte.
Times were good. Charlotte and Ken worked hard, traveled often, and Charlotte got to keep a horse.
Eventually they were ready to slow down a bit. Fortunately, Charlotte had a trusted and talented director at the school, Beth Frost. Charlotte sold the school to Beth, who has since sustained and improved the institution.
Looking for a quieter life, Charlotte and Ken considered their history and regarded Santa Fe as the place they'd like to be. It held fond memories as they were married there. So, they mostly- retired to Santa Fe in 2006.
Since that time, Charlotte has offered her voice to the Santa Fe Symphony Chorus, conducted vocal workshops, raised and trained several horses, helped charities, made many dear friends, and cared for her husband.
She was always passionate about philosophy, studying several disciplines and schools of thought. When she passed, her desk was still scattered with notes and study materials.
Charlotte was practical, pragmatic. She would take a bale of hay over a bunch of flowers any day. So, if anyone wishes to offer a gift, please consider a donation to our local food bank, The Food Depot. Keenly aware that many struggle, Charlotte would want us to put others first.
Charlotte invested her life with intention and thoughtfulness. She spent seven decades learning, teaching, singing, riding, and making the world a better place. Everyone who knew her was better for it.
