Earl James Streeter

October 27, 1933 — October 7, 2025

Earl James Streeter made his final transition on October 7, 2025, just three weeks shy of his ninety-second birthday.

Earl James (James) passed away in Santa Fe, New Mexico where he & his wife Marie-Louise (Lou) have lived since 2009. He left this earth peacefully at home, surrounded by his loved ones. James was born October 27, 1933 in Greenville, North Carolina. He grew up in a large & loving family, the third of eight children. James & his late brother Elmer Ray were their father Charlie's oldest sons & his righthand farm workers from the time they were little boys. Although James was eager to leave the farm - & the Jim Crow South - when he became of age, he never lost his love of nature & gardening. At the age of nineteen, James enlisted in the U.S. Army & served his country in the final months of the Korean War. He waited a year to enlist because his brother Elmer Ray was already serving in the war, & he did not want their beloved mother Easter to have two sons on the battle field. After the Korean War, James attended Indiana State University on the G.I. Bill. In 1959 James re-enlisted in the U.S. Air Force & was subsequently stationed at Phalsbourg Air Base in France. Just a short distance from Phalsbourg is the town of Saverne, where James met his wife & life partner Marie-Louise (Lou) Simon in 1960. James & Lou married in 1961. Their daughter Caroline was born in France in 1962. James was stationed at Ramstein Air Force Base in West Germany, a two hour drive over the border from Saverne. Lou's parents, Marie-Louise & Charles Simon, visited them often & were a big part of Caroline's early life. In 1965 James was reassigned to Aurora, Colorado for the school that marked the beginning of his lifelong career as a Metrologist & Electronics Quality Control Specialist. Lou & James' daughter Véronique (Vicky) was born there July 27, 1966. In 1967 James was stationed on Travis Air Force Base, CA where the family lived at 111 Wyoming Street. From 1971 to 1975, the family returned to Ramstein Air Force Base, where they were able to see Lou's parents & extended family on a regular basis. James retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1975. From 1975 to 1976, the family lived in New York, where they spent time with James’ sister Daisy, her husband Robert, & their daughter Roberta. From 1976 to 1986, James worked first in Dhahran, Saudi Arabia with aviation companies Northrup & McDonnell Douglass (1976 to 1982). Then for Northrup in Hawthorne, CA (1982-1986), living in Moreno Valley making the seventy-five mile commute into Los Angeles. Next Lou & James moved back to Saudi Arabia (1986-1988) before settling in Abilene, Texas for over 20 years. In 2009 James & Lou made one final move to Santa Fe, New Mexico. In addition to wife Lou & daughters Caroline & Vicky, James is survived by: His sister Catherine Davis of Greenville, North Carolina, along with her sons, their spouses, children, & grandchildren. His brother Roland Streeter of Nashville, Tennessee, along with his spouse, children & grandchildren. Extended family of Greenville, North Carolina. Lou's sister Annette Keller, her children and grandchildren, & extended family in France. Friends & loved ones of Abilene, Texas; Santa Fe, New Mexico & beyond
