Fidencia Barela

Fidencia “Fide” Barela, age 82, a resident of Santa Fe, NM was called to be with our lord onJune 9, 2024, after a lengthy illness. She was born on November 2, 1941, in Buena Vista, NM.Fide is preceded in death by her Loving husband Joe Barela & daughter Josette Barela, parentsAlredo & Oralia Sanchez, brother Wilfred Sanchez, sisters Aurora Sanchez- Montoya & TinySanchez-Dimas. Fide is survived by her loving daughters Michelle Apodaca (Paul) and Angelica Chavez (Tino), granddaughters April & Candice Martinez, Brittany Aragon (Joshua), Cassandra & Destiny Chavez, Great-granddaughters Hailey Garcia & Liliana Valdivia, Great- grandsons Alejandro Lara, Julian Sanchez (Valerie), and Amari Aragon, Great- great grandchildren Jenasii Marie & Joseph Julian. Fide is also survived by her sister and lifelong best friend Jilia Sanchez & brother Milnor Sanchez as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that she held very dear to her heart. Fide graduated as the valedictorian of her high school. In 1971 she served on the board that opened COPAS where she was an advocate for poor, homeless, and single mothers, as well as a child’s advocate where she cared for addicted and abused children. Fide also got her bachelor’s degree as an administrative secretary. She was an amazing woman, the life of the party. She will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know her.

Memorial services will be held at St. Francis Cathedral on June 27, 2024, with a rosary at 10:30 a.m. and mass at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow immediately at Rosario Cemetery.
