Gilbert John Mendiola, 66, was called to his Heavenly Home by his Lord and Savior on April 19, 2026. Gilbert was born on March 25, 1960 in Roswell, NM, and has lived in Santa Fe, NM since 1964. Gilbert was preceded in death by his parents Celestino and Elmira Mendiola.

Gilbert was Baptized in the Baptist Church at age 13 and he has always had a strong belief in God, Prayer and Christianity. Gilbert attended Santa Fe High School and graduated with the Class of 1978. Thereafter, Gilbert was a self-employed painter, construction worker and handyman.

More than anything Gilbert had a never-ending love for Rock-n-Roll music. Gilbert loved playing his bass guitar, the harmonica, and singing, this made him the happiest! He was a member in a few local bands with the most popular being “Rozy” and TKO. Gilbert, like many of us, had struggles and faults, but he had a love for life and a super great sense of humor. Since childhood, Gilbert has always had a way of making people laugh by acting silly, telling jokes, and displaying his lovable and funny personality.

Gilbert is survived by his brother Anthony Mendiola (Loreen), sister Margaret Baca (Albert); three nephews: Anthony John Mendiola, Andres Baca and Isaac Baca; and one niece, Victoria Flores. Gilbert will be missed by his surviving Aunts, Uncles, and many cousins and friends. Appreciation and gratitude is extended to special cousins Raul Alvarez Jr. and Caryn Keahbone Fiorina, as well as other special friends - you know who you are, who helped and supported Gilbert during difficult times.

A funeral service will be held in celebration of Gilbert’s life at on Wednesday, May 6th, 2026, 11:00am at Ascent Bible Church, 2076 Galisteo St., Santa Fe, NM 87505. A reception will be held thereafter at the church reception room for relatives and close personal friends.
