Steve Herrera

Steve Herrera, 65, born in Taos, NM, on November 20, 1958, passed away peacefully in his sleep on January 19, 2024, at his home in Santa Fe, NM. He is preceded in death by parents Alex and Lillian Herrera; brothers, Elias, Theodore, and Larry Herrera; and nephew Shone Smith. He is survived by his children, Maria (Jerry), John, Ray (Shelly), Crystal (Juan), Andrea (Erin), Samantha, and 23 grandchildren; Sisters, Sonia (Leroy), and Margie (Vicente); sisters in-law, Debbie, and Karen Herrera; Numerous nieces and nephews. Steve served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged. He worked at the Santa Fe Animal Shelter & Humane Society for many years. He loved animals so much that he adopted several dogs throughout his career with the Animal Shelter. His pride and joy were his two bullmastiffs, Larry & Louise.  He loved the outdoors; he loved to ski, hunt, camp, and fish with his family. Honorary Pallbearers will be Jerome Herrera, Elias Herrera, Sammy Romero, Maddison Armijo, and Aubrey Armijo. 

Funeral Services will be on February 6, 2024; rosary will be recited at 9:00 am followed by mass at 10:00 am at San Isidro Church, 3552 Agua Fria St., Santa Fe, NM. Burial will be at 12:30 pm at the Santa Fe National Cemetery, 501 N. Guadalupe St., Santa Fe, NM, followed by a reception at the F.O.E., 833 EarlySt., Santa Fe, NM.
