Jose S. Villarreal (Jimmy/Jim Viarrial) a respected community elder, and servant of his beloved Pueblo, passed away peacefully at his home on Sunday, January 5, 2025.
Jim was born at his parents’ home, located in the Pueblo of Pojoaque. He dedicated much of his life to serving the Pueblo in different capacities, where he left an indelible mark. He was very proud to be part of the growth in his tribal community. Jim enjoyed talking politics, going to the casino, playing board games, traveling, and watching Wheel of Fortune. He served as a Governor, Tribal Sheriff, and was an active Council Member for the Pueblo of Pojoaque.
He is preceded in death by his parents Fermin and Feliciana Viarrial, paternal grandparents, Fermin and Seferina Salazar-Viarrial, maternal grandparents; Jose Antonio and Senobia Tapia, brothers; Gabriel Viarrial, Margarito Viarrial, Ben Viarrial, and Jacob Viarrial, sisters; Mary Agnes Viarrial, Frances Viarrial, Cordie Gomez, and Dora Martinez, son; Ricky Viarrial, grandchildren; Gerald R. Viarrial and Elijah Archuleta, Special niece Gabriella (Gaby) Viarrial.
Jim is survived by his sisters; Phoebe Petty, Josefina Villarreal, brother; Ralph Viarrial, children; Shirley Catanach, Joyce Viarrial, E. Debbie Cainski, Gerald Viarrial, Stephanie Crosby, and Marilyn Archuleta. 44 Grandchildren, 32 Great grandchildren, 4 Great-great grandchildren, and 1 on the way. Special friend Eva LeDoux. Numerous nieces, nephews, and many dear friends.
Special thanks to the Pueblo of Pojoaque, CHR department for the care and love they gave Gramps, Road Runner Hospice for the support through this time and Nambe Pueblo for their assistance.
A rosary will be recited on Friday January 17, 2025, at 12:00pm with mass at 1:00pm Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe del Valle de Pojoaque Church. Interment will follow at the Pueblo of Pojoaque Cemetery.
