It is with profound sadness to announce Marianne Groh passed away on Sunday, May 25, 2025. A native of the Alsace region of France, Marianne moved to the United States in the 1950s, residing in Fremont, Los Gatos, and Santa Cruz, California.
With an innate enthusiasm for the arts, Marianne taught herself how to sculpt at the age of eight, using the natural clay of the region. She is known for her clay and bronze special commissions and sculpture series of American families, classic ballerinas, and one-of-a-kind angels. Marianne’s work has been exhibited in numerous galleries throughout California and the Southwest, including Zantman Art Galleries in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, Maxwell Galleries in San Francisco, California, and Fenn Galleries in Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Throughout the years, Marianne taught sculpture classes in Los Gatos and Santa Cruz, California. She was a guest art instructor at the legendary wellness retreat Rancho La Puerta in Tecate, Baja California, Mexico, and for over a decade, Marianne was a selected artist at the juried Santa Cruz County Open Studios Art Tour. Her 2013 self-published memoir, Celebrating Life: Art and Food, was inspired by her experiences during World War II in France. Marianne’s final years were spent in Carmel-by-the-Sea and Monterey, California.
Marianne was preceded in death by her ex-husband, L.H. Groh, a Lockheed Martin engineer. She is survived by her son, her daughter, Angelique Groh who lives in California, and relatives in France.
