Ruth E. Smith, 71 years old, passed away peacefully on May 13, 2026 in Rio, Rancho, New Mexico. Born on March 22, in Albany, New York, Ruth lived a life, filled with dedication to her work, cherished relationships, with family and friends, and simple joys that brought her happiness. Ruth devoted 37 years of her career to the New York State Higher Education Services Corporation, where she found fulfillment and purpose. Her commitment to her profession was a testament to a strong work ethic and passion for helping others.

Ruth is survived by her sister, Victoria DiLucente; her nephew, Dr. Anthony J DiLucente IV; grandchildren, Blake and Brynn Werger; and her aunt, Josephine Luft. She also leaves behind lifelong friends, Victoria Lounello, Karen Vandygriff, Rosanne Werger and Robyn Coil, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews who will remember her fondly. She was pre-deceased by her treasured companion Laureen Collette; her brother, Mark, J Smith; and her parents, Edward J Smith and Carmella (Ramos) Smith. Their memories remained close to Ruth’s heart throughout her life.

In addition to her professional accomplishments and personal relationships, Ruth found joy in playing cards, attending Penny Socials, and playing bingo. These activities brought laughter and camaraderie into her life, and were a source of great enjoyment for her.

Ruth‘s memory will be cherished by all who knew her. May those who loved her find comfort in the legacy of kindness and warmth she leaves behind. In accordance with Ruth’s wishes, there will not be any services.
