Sheridan Phillips

August 12, 1948 — November 27, 2024

Sheridan Phillips (born Sherian Marie Meeker) died on November 27, 2024, in Santa Fe, New Mexico, after a long illness. A native of Fort Worth, Sheridan graduated from Cristobal High School in the Panama Canal Zone before earning a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Texas Wesleyan University.

Sheridan’s thirst for knowledge was boundless. She went on to earn multiple master’s degrees: one in Early Childhood Education and another in Counseling from the University of North Texas, as well as a master’s in Eastern Classics with a focus on Sanskrit from St. John’s College. In the years leading up to her illness, she was immersed in doctoral studies in Philosophy, Art, and Critical Thought at the European Graduate School in Saas-Fee, Switzerland.

A lifelong advocate for social justice, human rights, and the arts, Sheridan was deeply committed to serving her community. She took pride in her volunteer work with organizations such as the Kimbell Art Museum, Mayfest, and the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition in Fort Worth, as well as the Palace of the Governors in Santa Fe. Her curiosity and love of the arts led her to explore a range of interests from Argentine tango to equestrian dressage, Chinese brush painting to literary translation. Known to many as the “corgi lady” she was dog mom to half a dozen adoring corgis.

Sheridan experienced hardship and illness toward the end of her life and was cared for by friends and community members in Santa Fe and beyond. Her family wishes to acknowledge the residents and staff of Villa Consuelo, her friends at Biscochito and Life Circle, her classmates from Cristobal High School, and so many others who showed her kindness and support over the years.

Sheridan is survived by daughter Karen M. Phillips and her husband, Kyle Olmon, of Santa Fe; grandchildren Elodie and Ezra; and her son, Lauren Phillips of Lubbock. The family is very grateful to Gregory Phillips and the Rev. Canon Ted Karpf for their help and support. Gifts in memoriam may be made to the Human Rights Campaign and the Santa Fe Farmer’s Market Institute.
