Teri Mae Brown

March 10, 1959 – September 12, 2025

Teri Mae Brown, a woman defined by her profound generosity and unwavering dedication to others, passed away on September 12, 2025. Born in Freeport, Illinois, on March 10, 1959, to Robert P. Brown Sr. and Fern Mae Brown, Teri’s path was shaped by a love for learning and a deep-seated desire to help others. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, specializing in Physical Education. Inspired by her own high school teacher, Donna, Teri dedicated her career to encouraging and uplifting her students. She later moved to Vancouver, Washington, and continued her education at Portland State University, where she obtained a Master of Science in Audiology.

A lifelong Lutheran Christian, Teri’s faith was a cornerstone of her life, expressed through active participation in church choirs and Bible studies. She was also instrumental in the management of Christ Lutheran Church’s property and buildings, and worked as a liaison between the church and all of the diverse communities that utilize its spaces. For the last several decades, Teri made her home in Santa Fe, New Mexico, where her impact was felt across many communities. As a devoted member of Christ Lutheran Church, she served on the council and as a worship leader.

Teri’s compassion extended far beyond the church walls. She was a driving force in establishing Safe Outdoor Spaces, Santa Fe’s first non-congregate shelter for people experiencing homelessness. As a leader in the Santa Fe Housing for All Collaborative—a group dedicated not only to serving the unhoused but also to advocating for affordable housing—she worked tirelessly as a volunteer to create meaningful change. Teri was also a board member of the Labyrinth Resource Group of Santa Fe, and a labyrinth is being built in her honor at Scott's House Hospice, commemorating her enduring spirit and commitment to contemplation and healing.

Her passing leaves a profound void, and her legacy of generosity and compassion will endure. Teri was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her four brothers—Charlie Brown, Bob Brown, John Brown, and Don Brown—as well as numerous nieces and nephews who will carry her memory forward with love. Her legacy of service and kindness will continue to inspire all who knew her.

A Celebration of Life will be held on November 1st 2:00 pm at Christ Lutheran Church, 1701 Arroyo Chamiso, Santa Fe, 87505, with interment to follow at the labyrinth.

In lieu of flowers please make a donation on her behalf to Scott’s House: Community Hospice and Respite House or Safe Outdoor Spaces at Christ Lutheran Church.
