Tracy Mackoy Bennett, born April 11, 1955, in Fort Worth, Texas, passed away on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, in Santa Fe, New Mexico. A memorial service will be held on September 26th at 11:00 a.m. at the Pecos Church of Christ in Pecos, New Mexico.

Tracy was born in Fort Worth, Texas, to James and Mary Bennett. He spent many of his childhood summers in Quanah, Texas, where he developed a love of the outdoors and a deep appreciation for the people and places that shaped him. In 1977, he left Texas for New Mexico, where he worked for nine years at The Brush Ranch in Terrero. It was there that he met his wife, Elaine, built lifelong friendships, and developed a deep connection to the land and the people who became like family.

Tracy lived life on his own terms. He was an adventurer, explorer, storyteller, and craftsman. Curious and creative by nature, he was happiest outdoors. He loved hiking, discovering new places, and sharing the stories and experiences that made life meaningful to him. His faith was central to who he was, and he found purpose in sharing the Christian message with others.

Tracy will be remembered for his adventurous spirit, creativity, faith, and the many stories he shared, but most of all for the friendships he formed and the lasting memories he created with those around him.

Tracy was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine Aragon Bennett; his parents, James and Mary Bennett; and his nephew Chase Bennett.

Those left to treasure his memory include his daughter, Lacy Bennett Koontz and husband Billy of Santa Fe, New Mexico; his son, Travis Bennett of San Francisco, California; his daughter, Taylor Bennett of Jacksonville, Florida; his brother Steve Bennett and wife Cathy of Decatur, Texas; his partner Janice Varela of Pecos, New Mexico; and his nephew Chance Bennett and wife Emily of Decatur, Texas.

Tracy also leaves behind numerous friends, cousins, and extended family members who will carry his adventurous spirit in their hearts.

The family kindly requests that flowers or plants be sent to the funeral location. Alternatively, donations may be made to Pecos Christ of Church, where Tracy attended.
