Victor Gene Funtanilla passed away Saturday October 7. Born in San Francisco, CA July 25, sometime
between 1950 and 1954 (Victor was cagey about that detail), Victor never lost his love of the bay area,
and still avidly supported the Niners, Giants & Warriors. He rejoiced in their wins; agonized in their
defeats.
Victor came to Santa Fe in the early 80’s, by way of Delancy Street, where he learned the sales trade
which he would come to perfect, first in print, and then in car sales . At Premier Motors for years, he
delighted in picking out special thank-you cards for his customers and coordinating Saturday meals for
his co-workers. Victor loved clothes, and pairing unexpected colors, fabrics, and textures. He was
probably one of the best dressed men in Santa Fe before he retired and began dressing down for his
daily naps with his favority cat – “the baby”.
Victor relished night-time hot tub soaks and continually expressed wonderment for the universe’s
enormity and seeing ‘more and more and more stars appear’. He loved flowers, history, fancy soaps, art,
Ray Bans, the Rolling Stones and was filled with appreciation and gratitude for life, often claiming he
was living the bonus round.
Victor was a force of nature. He lived unapologetically and basked those he loved in his light. He will be
missed greatly.
He is survived by his mate of 31 years Elizabeth Coleman, his beloved son Zack Edward, sisters Frances
Casaba (Johnny) and Lilian McDonald (Mac) and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Eddie and Ruth, brothers Bud, George and Eddie and sister
Diane.
A celebration of life will be held Thanksgiving – Victors favorite holiday - ‘all you have to do is show up
with an appetite and eat’. Arrangements handled by SF Funerals & Cremations
